The Station Grill

This is an excellent place for burgers and a beer, with a kid-friendly menu. I'll be honest. The Station Grill is one of my favorite restaurants in Muskegon. This establishment is one of the best run restaurants I've seen in my life, with consistently good quality and service. It is a well run place with excellent food. If you plan to come here for dinner or lunch, make sure to get here at least 15 minutes before you intend to eat, because it is almost always packed.

The Station focuses primarily on burgers, with a long list of specialty burgers. A flavor, fairly unique to Western Michigan is the olive burger, so make sure to give the Station's olivette burger a try. That's what I always get. Well, almost always.

Price: The Station is comparable to an establishment like Chili's or Red Robin. Not especially cheap, but not particularly expensive. And the price is very much worth it.

The Cherokee

This local diner has been around forever and serves excellent breakfasts and lunches, and recently dinners, for a very reasonable price -- think pancakes and eggs for breakfast or burgers and reuben sandwiches for lunch. If you're on a short lunch break and want a broader selection of food than a fast food joint might offer, the Cherokee can usually be counted on to serve up food pretty fast. This place also is one of the few places where you can get Upper Peninsula style pasties.

Price: Excellent, affordable prices and the food is wonderful. The Cherokee has on the wall in its mission statement the goal of providing quality food for a reasonable prices.

Whitlow's Forerunner

This restaurant has been around forever and the older folk still call it the El Royal...

If you're looking for fried perch, whitlow's has some of the best fried perch in Muskegon. This restaurant offers diner style breakfast, lunch, and dinner: pancakes, burgers, roast beef dinners, and so on. (If you're getting fries, ask for some bar cheese to go with it...mmm). The restaurant also has an attached bar with a full menu.

If you've never had a low fat buffalo burger, or if you love them, you can get one here.

Whitlow's has a large glassed in room filled with game animals from around the world - polar bear, boar, a lion...stuff to look at while you're waiting for your food.

Price: Reasonably priced, especially for lunch.

El Burrito Loco

Reasonably priced, family friendly, prompt service and excellent food. Keep in mind I'm as Northern European as the day is long, so if you're looking for Authentic Mexican, I'm not the best judge of what's authentic or not. But I do know what's yummy. And El Burrito Loco is that.

I tend to order the burrito loco, but their tacos are also good.

Price: Reasonably priced, especially for lunch.

El Camino

El Camino will always have a special place in my heart. It's one of the older Mexican restaurants in the Muskegon area and I remember my father taking me there as a boy. It's a local favorite, well known, excellent food, and it's got some nice enclosed booths for just a little extra personal space while you and your company are eating.

Price: Reasonably priced, especially for lunch.

Pablo's Tacos

If I recall correctly the owner or cook of Pablo's Tacos used to work at or partially own El Camino. Or maybe that's just a made up rumor. I don't know. All I know is Pablo's Tacos has refried beans to DIE FOR. We have some friends who always insist on eating at Pablo's. The owner knows their family and gives their kids suckers, and it's just a nice environment, good food.

Price: Reasonably priced, especially for lunch.

Rafferty's Dockside Restaurant

This is a fine dining establishment, located next to the Shoreline Inn off of Muskegon Lake. Beautiful restaurant serving the surf and or turf type of fare: steak, fish, pasta. The establishment has an overlook of the lake and if you're into sailing you can actually dock your boat right off the restaurant. This is the sort of place to take a date or a spouse for an elegant evening.

Price: You're looking at the $15 to $20 per entre range.
